Horse Riding - Beginners
SUSPENDED 24th May 2010 DUE TO UNEXPECTED LOSS OF TWO HORSES.
Enjoy exploring MONA's 120 acres on horse back escorted by Kerry on Shadow. This experience is for less experienced riders seeking to enjoy and experience a gentle ride around the property.
Horseriding at MONA: Braidwood New South Wales
The ride starts out with a delightful walk through the formal gardens before crossing the creek bed (currently dry) to take your horse for a "test run" on the equestrian arena. From here we walk up the hill, along the western boundary, following along the walking track. At the top of the hill are wonderful views across the rolling hills east of Braidwood, all the way to Mount Budawang.
The ride then proceeds down a gentle slope to the King's Highway boundary. Cutting across to the main drive we then walk up the drive to the intersect road where we deviate to visit the Swooping Eagle Statue on the rock.
Returning back to the drive the home journey skirts around the cattle paddock and follows the road down to the Woolshed.
The horses know their way home from here, so we keep them at a walk, past the Woolshed and across the MONA bridge.
There are two quarter horses available:
Prince is a 24 years old geilding, (17 hands) who loves a gentle outing.
Atlanta is a beautiful 8 year old Palomino mare (15 hands). Atlanta is a willing participant in everything but puddles!
- All riders are required to wear helmets (provided by MONA)
- Time: Approx 1 1/2 hours including preparation time
- Maximum 2 riders
