The Coach House Villa Accommodation
"Wow" is what most people say on entering the Coach House Villa accommodation at MONA in Braidwood. That "wow" factor has been masterfully created by Interior Designer Ray Siede, whose skill has created a bespoke ambience to surprise and delight even the most discerning traveller.
The Coach House Villa is an historic building. Built in 1903 it originally operated as a coachhouse. In 2005 a complete restoration, renovation and refurbishment saw this gracious, impressive building turned into luxurious self contained accommodation.
With its tiled floor throughout (with underfloor heating, of course) and generously proportioned rooms, it is now more like a grand European Villa than a home to horses. Set in its own private gardens, the Coach House accommodates up to six adults in three spacious king bedrooms, each with large luxury ensuites. The former central breezeway is now an extensive lounge/dining area. There is a separate eat-in self catering gourmet kitchen which opens onto a European style terrace for alfresco dining.
The Living Areas
The central lounge area has comfortable and inviting couches and arm chairs around a cosy wood fire. Guests can enjoy fine dining and candlelit dinners around the antique French farmhouse table with plush upholstered dining chairs, in the adjoining area.
A clever mix of antique and fine wood sideboards and tables, soft lamp lighting, prints and paintings combine to provide a special, warm and elegant atmosphere. The original hand cut wood beam ceiling has been preserved and contributes to the significant historical feeling. A TV / DVD and sound system is available, along with a selection of easy listening CDs and DVDs.
Beyond the huge mirror and wood partition that separates the space, is a separate sitting area adjoining the Da Vinci Suite, with a door opening onto the formal MONA gardens. Here, guests will find "The Horse" on a plinth, symbolising the humble origins of this now magnicient Villa.
The gourmet eat-in kitchen is fitted with a wide Emilie gas stove and a dishwasher. Very popular is the Jura espresso machine which produces coffee with a professional "crema". The kitchen is fully equipped with glassware, china, pots and pans and all the cookware the home chef requires for the preparation of that special, celebratory meal. In addition to the easy access to the formal dining table, the kitchen has a door leading to a sunny sheltered courtyard for alfresco dining, and grand, old, shady oak beyond.
The Rooms
The Coach House Villa comprises three bedrooms with ensuites. Guests can choose from the "Pink" (Leonardo) room or one of our Premier King rooms; the Mona Lisa room, or the Da Vinci Suite. The Coach House bedrooms are of gracious proportions. Bedrooms and bathrooms have underfloor heating. ...Totally tucked away from the world... Thick walls and black out curtains ensure guests will sleep undisturbed by those early rays of sunlight and wake to the sound of birdsong.
The three luxury ensuite bathrooms in the Coach House are individually designed and have large deep baths as well as generous shower recesses. The Premier King rooms have sitting areas in the bedroom. The Da Vinci Suite also has its own private sitting area adjacent to the common lounge.
The Leonardo ("Pink") room (15.84 sq m) is a charming King bedroom with ensuite. It has a view across the courtyard to country retreat vistas of green pastures and trees.
The Mona Lisa room (25.08 sq m) is a spacious and gracious King bed room with a sitting area and ensuite. The French windows open onto the more formal Magnolia lawn on the north side of the Coach House Villa. The distant view is of Braidwood Wilson Hill.
The Da Vinci Suite (26.40 sq m) is a generous room with both an in-room lounge and its own sitting area in the central "breezeway". From the bedroom the views are across the formal Magnolia lawn and to Braidwood Wilson Hill in the north. From the sitting area, with the door open, view across the formal gardens of MONA. The luxury bathroom is just across the sitting room and is unique and absolutely indulgent.
