Scrub Wren Visit
I watched this dear little Scrub Wren build its nest in the roof of the office over the Christmas break. It spent hours each day coming and going with all sorts of nest materials including horse tail hair from the Stables, over 50 meters away. She was very busy.
And then one day I was thrilled to hear the sqeak, squeak, squeak of the little hatchlings. The next day I started going scratch, scratch, scratch and realised to my horror that these new little birds were accompanied by some new little lice!
The New Year and January were spent scatching (both me and the birds) and hours on the phone (me with the birds in the background) trying to find a Pest Controller who had heard of Braidwood. Luckily I was successful, and after two fumigations, we are now lice free.
There was no need to relocate the nest and the fumigation did not kill the birds. They fled the nest and have joined the wonderful world of small birds that we have at MONA.
Next year I think we will encourage her to build her nest in a more natural environment!
